Getting started with Domain Guard

Domain Guard is a domain registration and holding service. This guide explains how to add it to your Hub and set up the name you want to protect.

Before you start

  • Choose your company or brand name, or have an existing domain name ready.
  • Decide whether visitors should go to your website or see a holding page.
  • Check your chosen name carefully. You cannot change it after activation.
Step 1

Add Domain Guard
In your Hub:

  • Select Add products & tools, then Domain Guard.
  • Select Continue to add and choose your package.
  • Review the costs and minimum term, confirm your account and complete checkout.

Billing starts at signup. A 12-month minimum term applies, after which the subscription continues monthly.

Step 2

Open the setup wizard
In the Hub, find Finish setting up your Domain Guard and select Continue setup.

Step 3

Your domain name

  • Enter your company or brand name without spaces, or an existing domain, in Name or existing domain. For example, yourdomain.
  • Check the spelling and select Continue.
Step 4

Your coverage

  • Review the domains included in your package. For example, Essential includes yourdomain.co.uk, yourdomain.com and yourdomain.uk.
  • Domains already on your account keep their existing package, billing and DNS. They are managed separately.
  • If you choose a package upgrade, review the costs and terms, then return to setup.

Select Continue.

Step 5

Website destination
Choose one option:

  • Use a custom website address: enter the website address you want visitors to reach, then select Continue.
  • Use a holding page: display a simple holding page until your website is ready.

For a holding page, follow the prompts and select Continue. This destination applies to every included domain, and you can change it later.

Step 6

Review and activate
Check:

  • Your protected name and its spelling.
  • The domains covered and whether they are available or will be monitored.
  • Your website destination.
  • Your subscription details.

Use the edit links or Back to correct anything. Read What’s included & registration terms, then select the confirmation checkbox when you are ready to authorise registration attempts and monitoring. Select Activate Domain Guard.

Your protected name cannot be changed after activation.

What happens next?

  • Domain Guard attempts to register available, standard-price domains included in your package.
  • Registration is not instant and can take some time. A domain may remain marked Registering while the registration is processed.
  • We’ll send you an email notification once the domain has been successfully registered.
  • Unavailable domains are normally checked every five minutes, with automatic registration attempts when they become available.
  • Successful registration cannot be guaranteed. DNS and HTTPS setup may take longer than registration.
  • Track progress on the Overview. The page refreshes every 15 seconds; Last checked shows the latest successful availability check.

What is included?

  • Standard-price domain registration and renewals.
  • Ongoing availability monitoring.
  • HTTPS forwarding or a holding page for included domains.

Premium-priced domains and exceptional fees require separate review and approval. Buying domains from existing owners is not included.

After setup

  • Change the shared destination through Settings, then Website destination.
  • Upgrading your package after activation starts a new 12-month minimum term.
  • Email is not included. To use email with a held domain, contact our customer support team to arrange an upgrade to a full Domain & Email package with Webfactory, billed and managed separately.
