What happens when a domain is already taken?
If a matching domain covered by your package is already registered by someone else, Domain Guard monitors it for availability rather than registering it immediately.
How does monitoring work?
- Availability is normally checked every five minutes.
- If the domain becomes available, Domain Guard automatically attempts to register it.
- Successful registration depends on availability and registrar processing, so it cannot be guaranteed.
A domain being monitored is not yet secured or held for you. Monitoring does not transfer a domain from its existing owner.
Where can I check its progress?
The Your domains table on the Overview shows each domain's status. Last checked shows the most recent successful availability check.
The Overview refreshes every 15 seconds to display the latest information. A page refresh does not mean a new availability check has taken place.
What happens when the domain becomes available?
We’ll send you an email notification once the domain has been successfully registered.
Registration is not instant and can take some time. The domain may show Registering while registration is processed, followed by Setting up while forwarding or a holding page and HTTPS are prepared. Secured means it is registered, with forwarding or a holding page and HTTPS ready. It is then held within Domain Guard and uses the shared destination for your included domains.
For an explanation of each stage, see What do the Domain Guard statuses mean?.
What if monitoring is paused or the domain needs attention?
- Monitoring paused means availability checks are temporarily paused.
- Needs attention means registration or setup needs staff review.
