What is the difference between Basic and Advanced permissions in the Hub?

The Hub offers two permission modes: Basic and Advanced. The mode you choose controls how Hub and product permissions are assigned to team members.

Basic permissions

Basic mode uses two fixed access levels:

  • Administrator access gives a team member every Hub and product permission.
  • Standard access gives a team member the standard non-administrator permissions for the products where they have a seat.

Individual Hub and product permissions cannot be changed in Basic mode. Use this mode when your team needs a straightforward setup and most non-administrators can use the same standard permissions.

Advanced permissions

Advanced mode lets administrators and authorised team managers tailor access for different responsibilities:

  • Hub permissions can be assigned directly to individual team members.
  • Hub permissions can be assigned through groups.
  • Product permissions can be assigned directly to team members who have access to the product, or through groups.

Group permissions can be configured separately from seat allocations. Each team member still needs a seat to use the product.

Administrators and team members with the Manage team members and groups permission can manage Hub permissions. Only administrators can grant or remove administrator access.

Which mode should you use?

  • Choose Basic when fixed administrator and standard access levels meet your team's needs.
  • Choose Advanced when team members need different levels of access or when you want to manage permissions using groups.

How to change permissions mode

To change the permissions mode, you must be an administrator or have the Manage hub settings permission.

Step 1

From any page in the Hub, select your profile picture in the top-right corner.

Step 2

Under Admin tools, select Hub settings.

Step 3

Select General settings.

Step 4

Under Permissions mode, select Basic or Advanced.

Step 5

Select Update settings to save the change. For more information, read How to find and manage Hub settings.

Seats and permissions

A seat makes a product available to a team member. Permissions control what the team member can do after the seat has been allocated. Read What is the difference between permissions and seat allocations?.
