What platform is my Webfactory website built on?

In this article, we'll explain what platform your Webfactory website is built on, how it is managed, and what this means for you.

What platform does Webfactory use?

Webfactory websites are built using our own platform, developed internally by the Webfactory development team.

We do not build websites using a third party content management system or an existing website builder. The Webfactory platform includes the tools our team uses to create and maintain websites, as well as the website editor used to manage your content.

Is my website custom designed?

Yes. The visual design of your website is created specifically for your business rather than selected from a pre-made design template.

Although each website has a bespoke design, websites share the underlying Webfactory platform. This allows us to maintain the system and introduce improvements and new features without requiring you to install updates.

How do I manage my website?

You can access your website through the Hub. From there, open your website product to use the website editor.

The website editor runs in your web browser, so you do not need to download or install any software. Depending on your website and package, you can use it to:

  • Edit text and images.
  • Manage pages and other website content.
  • Add blog articles or news.
  • Manage forms, banners and files.
  • Access features created for your type of website.

The tools available to you may vary depending on your package and whether your website includes the Standard or Enhanced Editor.

Do different website products use different platforms?

Our website products use the same core Webfactory platform. However, different types of website include additional tools designed for their purpose.

For example:

  • E-commerce websites include tools for managing products, orders, stock and delivery options.
  • Recruitment websites include tools for managing vacancies and applications.
  • Property websites include tools for managing property listings, images, floorplans and brochures.

These tools are part of the Webfactory platform rather than separate website building systems.

Does using an external service change my website's platform?

No. Your website may connect to external services for functions such as taking payments, monitoring website traffic, email marketing or live chat.

These connections do not change the platform used to build your website. Your website remains on the Webfactory platform.

Can third party services be integrated with my website?

Some third party services can be connected to the Webfactory platform using an API or another integration method. However, not every service is compatible, and the requirements will vary depending on the service and your website.

If you would like to connect a third-party service to your website, contact us first. We can check whether the integration is possible and let you know if any additional work or costs may be involved.
