Introduction to the website editor’s general settings

In this article, we'll introduce the General Settings area of the Website Manager and explain the types of information you can manage there.

The General Settings area brings together options that apply across your entire website, including its identity, shared content, forms, footer menu, browser icons and map settings.

Site identity

  • Site name: Enter the name displayed in the browser title bar on every page. We recommend using your company or organisation name.
  • Site short name: Enter a shorter version of your site name. This may be used as the sender name for form auto responders.
  • Language: Enter the two-letter ISO 639-1 code for your website’s default language, such as 'en' for English. Click 'Find ISO language code' if you need help finding the correct code.
  • Internal references: Controls whether internal page information, such as page IDs, is displayed when a Webfactory user views the website. This setting is available to Webfactory only.

Site-wide content

These settings control content that appears throughout your website.

  • Contact line: Enter a short piece of contact information that will appear on every page. An email address or telephone number is recommended. Avoid adding a full postal address here.
  • Footer text Enter the text displayed at the bottom of every page. You could use this area for information such as your company registration number.

Additional HTML

These settings allow HTML snippets and tracking code to be added across your website. Only add code from a trusted provider, as incorrect code could affect your website’s appearance or functionality.

  • Additional head HTML: Adds HTML inside the head section of every page. This can be used for verification meta tags and similar code.
  • Admin head HTML code: Stores functionality-related code that client users cannot change. This setting is available to Webfactory only.
  • Additional top of body HTML code: Adds HTML immediately after the opening body tag on every page.
  • Google Analytics: Add your Google tracking snippet to collect more detailed information about your website traffic.
  • Additional bottom of body HTML code: Adds HTML immediately before the closing body tag on every page.

Footer menu

  • Show footer menu: Switch this setting on to display a menu at the bottom of your website.
  • Footer menu pages: Select a page from the list and click 'Add' to include it in the footer menu.

Form settings

  • Default form email address: Set the email address that should receive website form submissions by default. If this field is left blank, your account email address will be used. Individual forms can also have their own destination email address. Enter an email address and click 'Add'. You can add more than one default recipient if required.
  • Blocked words and phrases: Add specific words, phrases or email addresses that should prevent a form submission from being delivered. Avoid blocking simple or commonly used words, as this could stop genuine enquiries from reaching you. Enter the word or phrase and click 'Add'.
  • Spam protection: Choose how strictly your website forms should filter suspected spam. The available options are 'Off', 'Reduced', 'Average', 'High' and 'Very high'.

Browser icons

  • Favicon: Paste the File Store URL for the icon displayed in browser tabs and bookmarks.
  • Apple icon: Paste the File Store URL for the icon used when your website is saved to the home screen of an Apple device.

Map settings

  • Custom map pin URL: Replaces the standard Google Maps pin with a custom icon. This setting is available to Webfactory only.
  • Alternative custom map pin URL: Enter the URL for an alternative custom map pin where required.
