How to configure your externally hosted domain

In this article we'll guide you through the process of configuring your external hosted domain.

You can obtain your DNS records by:

  • Logging into the Webfactory Hub, entering the 'Domain, hosting and email' product for the domain you want to set up and then clicking into 'Domain settings'.
  • Contacting us, we'll then provide you with an email containing the DNS records that need to be configured for your externally hosted domain.
    • Where the name/host field needs to be left blank, it will indicate that it should be blank or use @. Please note that some hosts do not allow the name field to be left blank.
    • The MX record will also specify the priority value that should be set.

Once you have your DNS records you will need to update your domain. You can usually do this yourself via your domain host's control panel or your can sometimes send the records to their support teams to make the changes for you.

Ensure accuracy, as any mistakes might impact the functioning of your services. You can verify updates in the Hub after making the changes by returning to the domain settings section where you will see green or yellow ticks next to each record. If you see any red cross, this means the change has been done incorrectly or is still pending updating.

Allow 24-48 hours for updates: changes in DNS settings may take some time. During the first 24-48 hours, status symbols may fluctuate between correct and incorrect. This is normal. If after 48 hours the status symbols still show as incorrect, double-check the DNS records updates you made. If everything seems correct, contact our support team for assistance.

If you're not sure about how to make these changes yourself, we may be able to assist if you grant our team access to your domain hosting account. There may be a small fee for the administrative time involved in making these changes on your behalf.
