How to set up a WhatsApp button on your website

In this article, we'll guide through the steps of setting up a WhatsApp button on your website.

Note that you can only set up a WhatsApp button on your website if your chose the WhatsApp button upgrade.

A WhatsApp button gives visitors a quick and convenient way to contact your business directly from your website. You can choose how the button looks, where it appears and which WhatsApp number receives the messages.

How to find the WhatsApp button settings

Step 1

Open your Website editor.

Step 2

Select the ‘Settings’ tab.

Step 3

Select ‘WhatsApp button’.

How to configure your WhatsApp button

Status

Use the ‘Status’ switch to enable or disable the WhatsApp button on your website.

  • Turn it on to display the button.
  • Turn it off to hide the button.

Appearance

Choose one of the three available button styles:

  • Icon only: displays the WhatsApp icon without any text.
  • WhatsApp label: displays the WhatsApp icon alongside the word ‘WhatsApp’.
  • Chat prompt: displays the WhatsApp icon alongside the words ‘Chat with us’.

Select the option that best suits your website and makes the button easy for visitors to recognise.

Location

Choose the bottom corner in which the button will appear:

  • Bottom left: displays the button in the bottom left of your website.
  • Bottom right: displays the button in the bottom right of your website.

Consider the other content and features on your website when choosing a location so that the button does not cover anything important.

WhatsApp number

Enter the telephone number for the WhatsApp account that should receive messages.

The number is required when the button is enabled. Make sure it:

  • Is registered with WhatsApp.
  • Includes the international country code.
  • Contains no more than 15 digits.

For example, a UK number can be entered in the format 447700900123.

Opening message

You can add an optional opening message of up to 500 characters. This message will be ready for visitors to review and send when WhatsApp opens.

For example: Hello, I have a question about your services.

A clear opening message can make it easier for visitors to begin their enquiry.

Save your changes

Once you have finished configuring the button, select ‘Update settings’.

Your WhatsApp button will then appear on your website using your chosen appearance, location, telephone number and opening message.
