How to set up visitor logins for your knowledge base

Visitor logins restrict access to your knowledge base so that only visitors with a username and password can view its content.

You need to send each visitor their login details manually.

Step 1

In your Knowledge Base, select 'Settings'.

Step 2

Select 'Visitor logins'.

Step 3

Enable 'Visitor logins', then complete the following fields.

  • Login page message: the message displayed on the login page.
  • Forgotten password page message: the message displayed after a visitor selects the forgotten password link.
Step 4

Select 'Update settings'.

Step 5

Select 'Add visitor login'.

Step 6

Enter the visitor's email address. This will be their username. You can also enter their forename and surname.

Step 7

Enter and confirm a password. The password must:

  • Be at least five characters long.
  • Include at least one number.
  • Include at least one special character, such as !, $ or %.
Step 8

Select 'Add visitor login', then send the username and password to the visitor securely.

Step 9

Under 'Preview protected site', select 'Open protected-site preview', then check that the visitor login page appears and the login details work as expected.

The preview does not change your visitor login settings and ends automatically after one hour.
