How to enable Klarna payments in your Webshop

In this article, we'll guide you through the steps of enabling Klarna as a payment method in your Webshop.

You can integrate your Webshop directly with Klarna or via an additional payment method through Stripe.

Step 1

From the website editor, go to the Webshop tab.

Now, click on Payment options.

Step 3

Locate the Klarna section and toggle the slider to enable Klarna payments, which will reveal additional options.

Step 4

Open a new tab and sign in to your Klarna Merchant Portal. Make sure you are working in the same environment you will select in your Webshop: Production for a live website, or Playground for testing.

Step 5

Retrieve the API username and password from your Klarna Merchant Portal. These credentials connect your Webshop checkout to Klarna. Find more information in Klarna's API authentication guide.

Step 6

Copy and paste the API username and password into their respective fields in the Klarna section of your Webshop's payment options. Select Production for a live website, or Test only when using Playground credentials.

Step 7

If you want to show Klarna's promotional widget on product pages, you must also configure On-site messaging in Klarna:

  1. In the Klarna Merchant Portal, go to Conversion boosters > On-site messaging, select your store and open Installation.
  2. Register your website as an allowed domain. Enter the exact website origin customers use, for example https://www.example.co.uk, without a page path. Add each origin that can serve your Webshop, such as separate www and non-www versions where applicable. Register live domains in Production and test domains in Playground.
  3. Open the Web SDK tab and copy the client identifier. Paste it into the Klarna client identifier field in your Webshop. This is separate from your API username and password, and Production and Playground use different client identifiers.
  4. Enable Show product page widget, then select Update settings.

The widget will not display unless the correct client identifier is entered and the website's domain is allowed in the matching Klarna environment. See Klarna's On-site messaging setup guide for more information.
