How to set up delivery options on my Webshop
This article covers actions which require the 'Webshop' feature.
Your website's Webshop can be set to operate in a number of delivery modes depending on your requirements.
To manage your delivery options, you should go to the Webshop section of the Website Editor, then click into the Delivery options link.
Delivery calculation modes:
Here's an outline of how each of the delivery calculation modes work.
Free delivery
Free delivery will apply no delivery charges to your customer's orders.
No delivery
No delivery assumes your products do not require delivery and therefore at checkout customers will not be asked for a delivery address. This could be good for digital goods, for example.
Price per item
With this option you set a fixed amount for delivery of your products based on the number of items. Sometimes you can bundle multiple items into a single package and the cost of additional items doesn't cost much more than the first. To aid with this, you can also set a 'with another item' price. For example, the first product might cost £4.99 for delivery but if you customer orders more items you can set your Webshop to charge a lower rate such as £4.99 for the first item and then £1 for each additional item. You can set these rates site wide in your delivery settings but you can also override these at the product level in the delivery tab within the product editor.
If you set a different delivery cost at the product level, when calculating total delivery cost, the higher 'first item' cost will be used. For example, if you were selling a piano and set the first item price for delivery to £49, and your customer also added a music book which had been set to £2.99 for the first item, the system will use the Piano's first item cost and the music book's 'another item' cost.
Both at the site level and the product level, you can set different rates if the delivery is outside the UK. Please note the only distinction with 'Price per item' is UK or not UK, you cannot control per a country. However, the next delivery mode supports more complex options like that.
Multiple options
This mode is the most flexible option for controlling your delivery costs, but due to this is a bit more complex to set up. Multiple options mode enables you to add multiple delivery options by zone where a zone is made up of one or more countries. Please note that you cannot set zones for regions within a country.
Within each zone, you add your delivery options and can set criteria by which these become available for your customer. For example, you can set options to only show for people in UK if their basket is over £100. You can also set weight criteria such as if a basket total weight is above a certain level, a different delivery option becomes available.
When you select the multiple options mode initially you will only see a 'Rest of the world' zone. We add this zone automatically as a catch-all zone i.e. if a customer selected a country, you've not assigned to one of your zones, the 'Rest of the world' zone will apply.
If you want the same options to be available to everyone regardless of country, you can just add your delivery options to the 'Rest of the world' zone. Don't forget though, if you later create a new zone and assign a country to it, none of the 'Rest of the world' options will be available to customers from that country.
A common trend would be to create a zone for your home country e.g. UK and then a zone for a wider region e.g. Europe and then use the 'Rest of the world' for everything else.
To add a new zone:
- Click on the 'Add delivery zone' button
- Enter a name for your zone e.g. UK, Europe etc
- Select all the countries that delivery options within this zone should apply to. (note a given country can only exist in one zone at a time)
- Click 'Add zone'
Your new zone will now appear. You will see within the zone, options to 'add weight option' or 'basket total option'. You should use these to add your different delivery options and set any criteria that should be met. Don't forget you need to make sure there are options in all case e.g. a basket which is very low value all the way up to something which is very high value. Once you've added all your options, use the 'test zone' button. This will run some automated tests to confirm you have set up your zone correctly. .
