How to set up delivery options on my Webshop
In this article, we'll guide you through the steps of setting up your delivery options.
Your webshop can be set to operate in a number of delivery modes depending on your requirements.
To manage your delivery options, go to the 'Webshop' tab of the website editor, then click on 'Delivery options'.
Delivery calculation modes:
Choose how delivery costs should be calculated for your orders.
Free delivery
Free delivery won't apply delivery charges to your customer’s orders.
No delivery
No delivery assumes your products do not require delivery and therefore at checkout customers will not be asked for a delivery address. This can bu used for digital goods, for example.
Price per item
This option lets you set a fixed delivery cost based on the number of items in an order. It’s useful when multiple products can be shipped together, as the cost of adding extra items is often lower than shipping the first one.
To reflect this, you can set a separate “with another item” price. For example, delivery might cost £4.99 for the first item, and then just £1 for each additional item in the same order.
You can apply these delivery rates across your entire site in your delivery settings, or customise them for individual products in the 'Delivery' tab within the product editor.
If you set a custom delivery cost at the product level, the system will always use the highest “first item” price when calculating the total delivery cost for an order.
For example, if you’re selling a piano with a £49 first item delivery cost, and a customer also adds a music book with a £2.99 first item cost, the system will apply the piano’s £49 rate as the base. The music book will then be charged at its “additional item” rate.
Both site wide and product level settings also allow you to define different delivery rates for orders outside the UK. However, with the 'Price per item' method, the only distinction available is UK vs non-UK. You can’t set rates for specific countries. If you need more advanced location based pricing, you’ll need to use a different delivery method that supports more detailed options.
Multiple options
This mode offers the greatest flexibility for managing delivery costs, although it can be more complex to set up.
The 'Multiple options' mode allows you to create different delivery options based on zones. A zone is made up of one or more countries, but you can’t define zones for specific regions within a single country.
Within each zone, you can add delivery options and set conditions that determine when they appear for customers. For example, you might offer a delivery option that’s only available to customers in the UK when their basket total exceeds £100. You can also apply weight based rules, such as showing a specific delivery option only when the total basket weight passes a certain limit.
When you first enable this mode, you’ll see a default 'Rest of the world' zone. This acts as a fallback, meaning it applies to any country that hasn’t been assigned to a specific zone.
If you want the same delivery options to apply globally, you can simply add them to the 'Rest of the world' zone. However, keep in mind that if you later create a new zone and assign countries to it, customers from those countries will no longer see the options set under 'Rest of the world'.
A common setup is to create a zone for your home country (e.g. United Kingdom), another for a broader region like Europe, and then use “Rest of the world” for all remaining locations.
To add a new zone
- Click on the ‘Add delivery zone’ button
- Enter a name for your zone e.g. UK, Europe etc
- Select all the countries that delivery options within this zone should apply to. (note a given country can only exist in one zone at a time)
- Click ‘Add zone’
Your new zone will now appear. Within the zone, you’ll see options to 'Add weight option' and 'Add basket total option'. Use these to create your delivery methods and define the conditions under which they should be available.
Make sure you cover all possible scenarios, for example, from very low-value baskets through to high-value orders, so that a valid delivery option is always available to your customers.
Once you’ve added all your delivery options, click the 'Test zone' button. This will run automated checks to help confirm that your zone has been set up correctly.
